MACTEC Helps City of San Francisco Launch Green Jobs Training Program
Environmental Field Technician Training Program Provides Skills for Graduates to
Compete in ‘Green Economy’
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 23, 2009 – A training program designed and implemented
by MACTEC as part of the City of San Francisco’s first Green Jobs Training
Program will help graduates find employment in the growing environmental
remediation field. The San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce
Development (OEWD) piloted the program. Allen Kibler, President of MACTEC
Engineering and Consulting, Inc., (www.mactec.com), made the announcement.
MACTEC’s extensive curriculum for the Environmental Field Technician training
program – consisting of three days of classroom and hands-on field work, is one
module of the City’s Green Skills Academy implemented earlier this month.
Key curriculum elements included:
- Health and safety and job hazard analysis
- Sources of environmental contamination
- Introduction to environmental media (soil, groundwater, stormwater, etc.)
- Reasons for sampling
- Fundamentals of sampling
- Introduction to groundwater sampling
- Introduction to soil sampling
- Introduction to air and dust monitoring
- Field training
“These programs are critical to provide residents the necessary skills and
training to effectively compete in the new green economy,” said San Francisco
Mayor Gavin Newsom. “Times are tough, so we need to get creative about how we
find people jobs.”
